Gamelan Project
My first contact with the Gamelan orchestra happened at the Southbank Centre, in London (UK) when I was looking for attending to a new activity in order to relax from my PhD journey.
The best thing I have ever done during my life in London, apart from my PhD and the street pianos in 2012, was to attend to Gamelan lessons at the Southbank Center.
The magic window that shows all Gamelan instruments to any person at the Southbank intrigued me for several months. Then, I had a chance to talk to Dr Sophie Ransby who happily accepted me as student. My experience with the Gamelan orchestra was just starting.
I attended the Southbank Gamelan Players (SGP) group from 2014-2015. In addition, I have regularly been invited to give live concerts and take part in SGP group for workshops in 2016 and 2017, respectively. I made such good friends during the Gamelan lessons that I could not believe. I was part of the "Gamelan Gang".
Gamelan is well-known in the UK, but not in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). "Gamelan project" is an innovative music education project aims to develop cognitive, artistry, and music skills through the playing in a Gamelan orchestra.
